The Kidney Meridian of Foot-Shaoyin

The Kidney Meridian of Foot-Shaoyin (KI) has 27 points, of which 10 points are on the posterior border of the medial aspect of the lower limbs, 17 points are on the both sides of the midline of the thoracic and abdominal regions, and of which the first point is Yongquan (KI 1) , the last one is Yufu (KI 27).

Principal Indications : diseases of urological system, reproductive system, nervous and mental system, espiratory system, circulatory system, alimentary system and the part the meridian comes by, such as spermatorrhea, Impotence, morbid leucorrhea, irregular menstruation, asthma, diarrhea and the pains of the medial aspect of the lower limbs.

Zhongchong

Zhong, middle; chong, gushing.

The point is at the tip of the middle finger and is the Jing-Well point of Pericardium Meridian, where the Qi of meridian originates and gushes upward along the meridian.

Location

in the centre of the tip of the middle finger.

Indication

1. high fever, unconsciousness, apoplexy and heat stroke.

2. convulsion of hysteria.

3. pain and numbness of fingers.

perpendicularly 0.1 cun or peck to bleeding

Jing-Well Point

DaLing(pc7)

Da, large; ling, mound.

The protrusion of the palmar root is large, like a mound. The point is in the depression of the wrist proximal to it.

Location

In the middle of the transverse crease of the wrist, between the tendons of m.palmaris longus and m.flexor carpi radialis.

Indication

cardiac pain, arrhythmia, stomachache, vomiting, mental disorder, hysterial, intercostal neuralgia.

perpendicularly 0.5-0.8 cun

The Pericardium Meridian of Hand-Jueyin(PC)

The Pericardium Meridian of Hand-Jueyin (PC) has 9 points, of which 1 point is on the upside of the prothorax, and 8 points are on the middle of the medial aspect of the upper limbs; and of which the first point is Tianchi (PC 1) , the last one is Zhongchong (PC 9).

Principal Indications : diseases of bosom, cardiovascular system, nervous and mental system and the part the meridian comes by, such as heartache, heart-throb, being perturbed, vomiting, pyrexia, skin ulcer, depressive madness, and pains of elbows and arms etc..

Qiuxu(GB40)

Qiu, mound; xu, large mound.

The point is between the lateral malleolus (like a mound) and the peroneal trochlea of calcaneus(like a large mound).

Location

Anterior and inferior to the external malleolus, in the depression on the lateral side of the tendon of m.extensor digitorum longus.

Indication

1. cholecystitis, cholecystolithiasis(cholelithiosis), ascariasis of the gallbladder.

2. pain in the lower extremities, paralysis.

3. pain in malleolus joint and around, such as arthritis and sprain.

Yuan-Source Point

The Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang

The Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang (GB) has 44 points, of which 15 points are on the middle of the lateral aspect of the lower limbs , and 29 points are on the regions of buttocks, flank of the head and bosom, and of which the first point is Tongziliao (GB 1) , the last one is Zuqiaoyin (GB 44).

Principal Indications : diseases of the face, head and the five organs, mental diseases, pyrexia and diseases of the part the meridian comes by , such as bitter feeling of the mouth, swimming, headache, chins’ pain, turgescence of oxter, pains of bosom-flanks, gall of upper hollows of collarbones and pians of the lateral aspect of the lower limbs etc..

Taichong(LR 3)

Tai, big; chong, important pass.

The point is on the foot, where the Qi of meridian is abundant. It is an important pass of this meridian.

Location

on the dorsum of the foot, in the depression distal to the junction of the 1st and 2nd metatarsal bones.

Indication

1. hepatitis, cholecystisis, cholelithiosis, ascariasis of the gallbladder.

2. lowering high blood pressure, fainting and headache caused by high blood pressure, convulsion of epilepsy.

3. spermatorrhea, enuresis, amenorrhea.

4. headache caused by hepatic fire, redness and pain of the eye.

perpendicularly 0.5-0.8 cun

Remarks

Shu-Stream and Yuan-Source Point. Main point for calming the liver.

Qimen(LR 14)

Qi, cycle; men, door.

The flanks on both sides are like an open door, where the point is located. When the Qi of meridian circulates here, it is considered as one cycle. The point is therefore named Qimen.

Location

below the nipple, in the 6th intercostal space.

Indication

1. main point to treat diseases of the liver and the gallbladder.

2. intercostal neuralgia.

Method

1. puncture obliquely and horizontally 0.5-0.8 cun.

2. for the points in the intercostal space, insert the needle at the superior margin where intercostal vasculars are located to avoid hurting.

3. deep insertion should be avoided in order not to hurt the internal organs.

Remarks

Front-Mu Point of the Liver

BAIHUI

Bai, hundred; hui, meeting.

The point is at the vertex and is a meeting place of the three Foot-Yang Meridians, the Liver Meridian and the Governor Vessel.

Location

7 cun directly above the midpoint of the posterior hairline.

Indication

1. main point to treat dizziness (acupuncture for Excessive syndrome and moxibustion for Deficiency syndrome)

2. main point to treat diseases fo the brain: cerebral apoplexy, epilepsy, various kinds of headache.

3. prolapse of rectum or uterus

4. neurasthenia, faintness, insomnia.

Method

1. puncture horizontally 0.5-0.8 cun

2. The direction of the tip may change according to the area of the headache. Puncture horizontally backwards is most common

Remarks

Main point for dissipating wind and raising Yang.

Zhi, reaching; Yang, Yang of Yin-Yang.

The point is at the level of the diaphragm. The Qi of this meridian passes here and ascends, i.e, it reaches “Yang within Yang” above the diaphragm from “Yin within Yang” below the diaphragm.

Location

below the spinous process of the 7th thoracic vertebra.

Indication

jaundice, caugh, asthma, lumbago.

Method

obliquely upward 0.5-1 cun.
